Deep Throat

Dear Hockey Saga Diary,

There were two more stories about Mike in the Sports section of the Tribune today. A local columnist, named Mark Emmert, asked some good questions, He wrote that "Suspicion grows where silence reigns." Amen!

Emmert also said. "The reason for not releasing information is to protect Randolph's privacy, but this can't be done over his objections, and he's on the record as saying he wants some answers." This is pretty much the same thing I was getting at in the letter   I'm having sent to the School District's attorneys.

Mel from KDLH television gave me a call and asked for an interview. I was still eager to get the community thinking about their priorities and was happy to oblige her. I found out later that Julio spent a fair amount of time on the Radio explaining the District's decision. I'm sure it was all about process because no one is explaining why we non renewed Randolph. That hasn't stopped the speculation in fact, as Emmert suggested its only thrown gas on the fire.

I decided that it was time to ratchet my info dissemination up a notch. I'd toyed with the idea of setting up a web log, or a "blog." I've been writing in this diary off and on for a couple of years now but this is a little more formal than a blog would be. I looked up blogs on the Internet, did some reading and started one. I hate learning new tricks but I managed to put a first entry in. Twice! Hope I can fix it. If I can master the blogging I'll start telling the hockey partisans about it. Of course, if they read the diary they will get a better chronological sense of events but the blog will give them the latest information first.

I got several letters today that looked like Hockey related stuff but I set them aside for later reading. I forgot about them until just before bed. One of them was quite a surprise. Before I got more than a paragraph into it I turned to the last of its six pages to see who had sent it. "Deep Throat" was the author's pseudonym. Whooo Boy!

I hate anonymous letters. They are so chicken excremental. We do not live in Saddam Hussein's Iraq. People don't have their tongues cut out and their bodies pureed. Still...

Some of the charges in the letter were far-fetched but the letter had the ring of truth as though written from inside the hockey world. It described a program in which kids who would never have a chance to make the varsity team were used as drones to raise money but then cut when they were no longer of use. It was pretty icky.

If this is the kind of stuff the Administration has been keeping from us then their investigation of the Randolph program was long overdue. I have no idea what they found out. They won't tell us. Perhaps the letter writer has overcome the legal obstacles blocking the Administration. It was addressed to the entire School Board. Whether the letter is a crock or not this will certainly steel the Board members who, like the public, have been second guessing the Administration.

Mr. Randolph wants an explanation for his non renewal. He may just get his way. He might end up regretting  that he didn't opt for the big party instead.
